Festival Internacional de Arte Marbella

Thinking back on the festival and what an overwhelming success it was. We had around 20,000 visitors and most of the artists sold art, some of them, lots of art! Eli, Caroline and I worked hard and would like to thank all the people that helped to make it happen, including the Department of Tourism and Jose Louis Fernandez and Oti, our many sponsors who so graciously supported us and without whom, the festival would not have been possible. We'd also like to thank the volunteers that pulled through and helped with the parking, the festival tent and all the other details we were too overwhelmed to take care of. We'd like to give a special thank you to Don Candido of the Fundacion Banus for producing our lovely catalog and for his understanding of the importance of art in our community. Thank you also, to all the visitors and to the beautiful people of Marbella.

ENHORABUENA--El Club Americana y la Fundacion Banus va a patrocinar una catalogo con cubierta dura! Que suerte tenemos!

Selection in Progress

Wow! What incredible artists have signed up! It is very humbling to me to see the talented people that want to be part of this Art Festival. 84 artists have sent in .jpegs and fortunately, the town hall has graciously also given us the Alameda, so we now can put up 70 tents! I wish there were room for everyone, because they all deserve it!
We are working night and day to make this the best art extravaganza to hit Marbella! Even though we are in an economic crisis, many supportive companies are helping out because they love art and Marbella.
Louise Cook of Media Machine has sent press releases to 200 media outlets in Spain and the UK. Dozens of them have announced the festival in their publications.
Now we are waiting on the jurors to make the selection and let us know who the lucky ones are. Will keep you posted!

February Update! Fantastic!

Things are going GREAT!
The festival is in Essential this month and on marbellas.com, thebestofmarbella.com and on andalucia.com/blog The press release was sent out to dozens of media outlets by mediamachine who's helping with the PR.
We now have a real pro on board for the performance part--June Rendle--she ran festivals in the UK, is an actress herself and has great contacts in the UK media. The musicians are getting excited also. Emma and I had lunch today with some of our extremely talented Jazz musicians--they're very excited and supportive.
The artists signing up are awesome! One from Berlin (holiday home here) is going to do a contemporary installation with water, lights and music about the coral reefs!

Crisis and Art

Everyone is rightfully concerned about selling in the Economic Crisis. Here is an interesting article about Art during this time with some very informative comments.

No one stopped painting during the depression and neither should we. Work harder, paint better!
